No matter how you or your partner feel about Valentine’s Day, whether you’re interested or think it’s a big old fuss about nothing, ignoring it somehow feels wrong. It can be difficult to find the time to show how much we love each other 365 days a year, so at least Valentine’s Day gives us the chance to do this.
Here are my top five tips to have the perfect Valentine’s Day. Your plans don’t need to be expensive or time-consuming, just thoughtful and personal. It’s the little things that count!
Doing something you don’t normally do, something out of the routine, really shows you care and appreciate each other. From having a cup of coffee ready first thing to getting the kids bathed and ready for bed. Throughout the day give each other a break from the jobs you hate; whether it be making the packed lunches for the next school day (that’s my pet hate) or getting the kids to do what you say (that’s my husbands!) During working hours, send each other a text or an email to let them know you are thinking about them. You could even send a link to one of your favourite romantic songs, if you are feeling particularly lovey dovey!!
ALWAYS get a Valentine’s gift and a Valentine’s card! But don’t go for the cliche flowers, chocolate or expensive lingerie, try a more personal and unique gift. Check out this list of Last Minute Valentine’s Day Gifts for loads of fab ideas, for both him and her. REMEMBER when us girls say we don’t want a gift….WE DON’T MEAN IT!!! No one likes to be cardless of giftless on Valentine’s Day, even blokes!
If you’re lucky enough to get rid of the kids for the evening, there is no need to go out and sit in a crowded, overpriced restaurant. Turn off your phones and spend some time together doing absolutely nothing, just being together! NO KIDS = NO DISTRACTIONS = JUST THE TWO OF YOU. Enjoy the peace and quiet or pop on some tunes from the good old days!!
To ensure you spend as much quality time together as possible, don’t cook a fancy complicated meal that requires the use of every pan and utensil in the kitchen. How about a romantic picnic? Fill the entire living room with candles and spread out a simple but delicious selection of nibbles and treats. And the best bit…..NO DISHES = NO NEED TO MOVE FROM YOUR CUDDLES ON THE SOFA.
If you can’t get rid of the kids, involve them! They will love being included in your romantic celebrations and will also learn how important being in a happy relationship is. During the day fill the time with children’s Valentine activities; such as making each other Valentine’s Day cards, baking fun Valentine cakes, creating Hama Bead hearts or colouring in Valentine pictures or activity sheets. In the evening, let them join in with your romantic picnic. Kids love picnics as picnics = fun food, no vegetables and no table manners at the dining table. With little clearing up for you, everyone is happy, a win win situation. And don’t worry it will soon be their bedtime and you can continue your evening as you like!!
Have a lovely Valentine’s Day and remember these tips are so simple that you can carry them out again and again at any time, not just on Valentine’s Day. Leave a comment and let me know all about your perfect Valentine’s Day and subscribe to my newsletter for more tips and news from me!
